Food Timeline
Smøla (area 275 km²) is the island in the big ocean, with Europe's largest "fiskevær". Smøla is known for its flat prairielike landscape. The coast off Smøla consists of more than 5.800 small islands, holms and rocks. Highest level is 70 meters above sea level (Kuli). Smøla has a very rich wild animal and bird life. Along the 439 km long coastal line thousands of sea birds are hatching. From the ocean here you can get all kinds of fish, also salmon.
The charophyte Chara baltica Bruzelius found on the island of Smøla.
In Norway Chara baltica is a rare species, currently known only from Smøla in Norway. The species reported from a brackish water pond on the island of Smøla. There is reason to believe that shorebirds and geese have been important for the dispersal of this species.
